Paphs in Terrarium
Default Paphs in Terrarium

First post everybody! Well, I have been toying with the idea of putting my plants in a custum built orchidarium of my own design. I am thinking a wooden framed housing with doors that open in the front like a cabinet. I have been thinking this will be ok since phals do well in cabinets and paphs share some of the same growing conditions. My questions are this: Should I include a small cpu fan with vents opposite it for ventilation or would opening the cabinet daily/alternate days to allow air flow be sufficient? Since I will need to open the cabinet to water and mist I am not feeling 100 % positive on this. Also any suggestions for florescent lighting for paphs considering they are not extremely close to a window source and any ideas if I should just place the case near a window with a draw curtain? Sorry for the long post!! But welcome everyones ideas!! Thanks

this idea actually was inspired by a case i saw in Growing Orchids, the Ritterhausen book in the section growing under glass.

Just make sure you have enough air movement, I would worry the crowns might rot if water doesn't evaporate. But you could hand water and it would be fine.

Hello and welcome.
A fan will be a must, opening the door just won't allow for proper air circulation. It will probably need to be pretty close to a window if you are not going to use supplemental lighting.

I use 2x 2 foot sunblaster T5 fluorescent lighting. It has been good with my unifloral paphs so far.
