Default Paph bud to bloom time

Hi~~

I have a paph--do not know proper name. The plant is healthy & has sent out a lovely spike with bud. The bud is not dried out. How long does it usually take a bud to open? I know that this is a general question as I do not know what type of paph it is--so 1-2 months? At what point does one be concerned aboud "bud blast"--when the bud dries up & looks dead?

Any help is appreciated. I am a newbie to this & am so excited about the spike & bud.

Thanks~~
Pedi

Oh, I live in Amarillo, TX ( zone 6) & the plant is in a sunroom & has the correct humidity, temp fluctuations per the literature that I have read.

Congrats on your bloom. Without a picture of the progress so far it's pretty hard to give an answer but 1-2 months is probably correct. You'll know if it blasts, it'll dry up and look dead.

Some Paphs can be quite slow. As far as bud blast - yes, I think the only way to "diagnose" it is after it has started. Depending on how far along the spike/bud is, I would expect around 2 months, could be longer, or shorter.

OK, that gives me a time frame. Thanks. It will be a lesson in patience. I have learned a lot from my orchids.

orchids are indeed a lesson in patience! Especially when watching spikes!
