Paph rothschildianum Male
Default Paph rothschildianum

Hello,

I pretty much grow cattleyas but have ventured out a little and after sometime I finally have got my paph rothschildianum to spike. My question is does this plant need to be staked as the spike goes up? I don't have much experience with these large species.

Thanks
Micah

If the spike is tall, then be safe and stake with the anchor just under the ovary

I usually stake my multi floral paphs only because when I move them to water them the spikes tend to wave around. I've lost a few spikes when I've moved them.

I do the same, I stake the tall spikes, no higher than the base of the ovary, sometimes lower than that.

I do it for the same reason as Bill, they wave arround a lot when I move the plant to water it.

I think you should stake the spikes

Roths are hard to grow and hard to bloom, so better be safe

good luck!!!
