Default Need a little insight here ....

I have a nice Paph coloratum ...its activly growing no rot I can see 2 mature fans and each has a new fan growing from the base of the old growths....

OK the largest fan has produced a sheath and it is about half way out of the leaves...it is a dark brown color but not soft it has been dark reddish brown since it was tiny and this color has not changed.

When a light is used to illuminate it from the back you can see the bud almost totaly filling the sheath,But is has hit a stall and is just sitting the sheath emerged about the first of Dec. and its only been 1 month ...how long should I expect it to be before it is standing above the leaves at least.

Well I am not sure what is going on with it.
I hope they will start to come out but in the first picture it looks like it has dried up usually they don't take that long to clear the sheath . I hope I am wrong ..

actually it does not feel dried out ..at least the sheath does not ..and the new growths are still growing nicely..as you said will have to wait it out...
I may have slowed it down when I sprayed with physan 20 ...lol finaly broke down and ordered the good stuff...had one leaf did the black at the base on a catt and this year said "oh hell no" ....and the chid I bought at shaws is in bud ...lol not going to be the biggest and may not even be more than one ,but whoo hoo it survived me the summer and has two new leads and is making a great effort.

I am into the 4th month for a NOID Paph which will open any day finally. But even the "any days" have been turning into "any week". I still think it will open "any day" now

Thanks Gin ....Im really happy that it made it much less is pushing a bud out right now.
The bud on it is emerging nicely and although I realy dont expect it to be as large as it will be in the future or lol even more than one or two at most Its another milestone for me in catt growing. The star ruby is still in bloom also ...the last bloom is hanging in there.

I bought some physan 20 on amazon.com and sprayed everything and it has realy helped a lot more than I expected,I had one leaf on the lowes chid that was in bud when we went there that did the black at the base and fell off,so I bought the physan and started using it ....Roots on everything have realy got much sturdier and new eyes started into growth on plants that last had been just sitting all winter.I am going to say there was something affecting them that the Physan took care of.

Sure does not hurt to prevent rather then cure I did mine last week .With the greenhouse closed up it is prime for fungus or other nasty things .
Nothing wrong with one bloom on the Catt. especially after the several condition changes , nursery to Shaw's, in the truck to your house re- potting. I think you did really well with it .. Good Growing !
