Default Multiflora Paph. — what culture is needed?

Hi there,

I’ve just retuned from an orchid show and bought an interesting hybrid and was looking up its parentage and they all seem different in their requirements and so now I’m a little confused what care to give him.

He’s a Paphiopedilum Prince Edward of York x Lady Isabel.

The parentage comprises:

Prince Edward of York (rothschildianum x sanderianum) x Lady Isabel (rothschildianum x stonei)

Paphiopedilum stonei seems to like a little lime, but not read that for rothschildianum or sanderianum. Also light levels and potting media are a consideration and night temperatures.

I might just have to try and experiment, but I don’t want to lose him; he has one main plant with eight strong leaves and then three more babies of good health.

Has anyone got experience of the parents, Prince Edward of York or Lady Isabel so as to give me some pointers?

Any help is very much appreciated.

I grow all my multifloral paphs under intermediate to warm condition, minimum 18 degree celcius at night, with higher humidity (65%+), under high light (lower than catt/vanda light, but more than regular paph).

hope that helps..

I grow and have flowered both those hybrids. They pretty much like the same conditions. Basically as what Jorch recommended. I grow them at a minimum of 16oC. You wouldn't want to grow them much cooler than that. Bright light as Jorch said and high humidity.

It should be a nice hybrid. Seems like you have a large mature plant which is most of the abttle with thse slow growing multi Paphs.
