when I refered to it growing multiple fans I basically mean that it is growing from lots of points, each growth point forming it's own fan.

Rosie...does each fan grow it's own flower?

Hi Karen, How far upstate are you? Piping Rock Orchids is in Galway and Bloomfield Orchids somewhere near Rochester.
|
Hi Bill! I'm in the Greater Binghamton area. Rochester is about 2 1/2 - 3 hours away. Looks like Galway is about 3 hrs also. Maybe I'll have to get some friends to go on a road trip with me! They're not orchid freaks like me but but they are very good at humoring me! Thanks!

From my understanding they flower when the growth/fan matures and the flower buds come from the center of the fan. Once it has flowered the fans start to die back (to be replaced by new ones) although on all of mine that is very slow (months or even years).
So far none of mine have rebloomed but I believe they should eventually get a bud from each fan, although I'm not certain

So, it can bloom out of each fan? Or only one fan at a time? Thanks for your help

I like Paph Pinocchio and it's parents (primulinum x glaucophyllum), as well as chamberlainianum because they are sequential bloomers. I have one that has been in bloom a year. I've heard it said where African Violets will grow, light wise, Paphs are happy too. Mine are a constant source of wonder. Carter and Holmes seems to be a good reliable source for them. They, however, often sell NBS so you have to wait a year or so. Good luck!

Once a plant gets older (and happier), and produces multiple new growths at once, you can have multiple growths flowering at the same time once they mature.
