Default Paph leeanum spike?

Hi folks,
I held my Paph leeanum up to the light last night as I do every now and then in vain hope of seeing something and I quite clearly saw a triangular spear shape- the red outline
shows where it was and sort of the shape.

Could this be a flower bud? If so this will be my first ever flowering paph

I thought flower buds came out of a sheat that looks like a new leaf at first. Good luck, I hope Im wrong.

It is right inside in the middle.. do the sheathes come up from right within the middle of growths or from the sides of the growth?

i hate to say this but i got some bad news for you. I've done the very same thing many times and that dark triangle is just where the older leaves overlap. its not very often that a new leaf and a new sheath start at the same time on one growth. i haven't been able to bloom my leeanum for since ive had it, close to three years now.

Hi Tacurtis,
on the other growth on my leeanum there is also a dark triangle but it is much bigger and more transparent, where as this dark triangle is much smaller/thinner and darker - actually looks brown. Whether it is a bud or not I guess only time will tell . I think I have had mine for around a year or two also.

Hi Phantasm, thanks for your reply

It is actually almost winter here in Australia.

I just took a better photo that shows the difference between the two growths, what do you think?
