My maudiae has bloomed again! The plant is 14 years old, and a faithful spring bloomer. I divided it last summer and gave half of it to my friend Erica in North Carolina. Her's is getting ready to open as well! I lost the tag, but I remember that one parent is Paph. Maudiae 'Los Osos'. Doesn't help much for an ID, I suppose, but I still love it!
Personally, I'm quite amazed that the plant has never really gotten any bigger. I have seen photos of mature Paphs with clumps of leaves and tons of flowers, but the most I have ever gotten is 3 blooms. I gave the larger division to Erica, and she should get 2 flowers... perhaps its just a tiny sort of plant?
It's a beautiful plant - I have a similar one (but with a white "sail") and that only has three clusters of leaves two which have flowered and one which is to come - I thought it was because it was immature - but perhaps they do stay small. Let's hope I can keep mine for 14 years and find out!
