Default Paph. delenatii

This one looks better this year than last. I moved it to a cooler shelf to see if it would open better, and so far it has. I'm hoping the flower will last longer too.

I'm starting to wonder if this really is delenatii. The first year it bloomed the petals were white. Last year and this year they have been a blush pink. It has always had the very strong dark pink pouch. Anybody care to weigh in?

Here's a pic of it's first bloom for comparison.

that would be exceptional colour for a delenatii

But it looks much like a Paph Ho Chi Minh (delenatii x vietnamense) The staminode is too green. The this is a great bloom for Ho Chi Minh!! The shape is well balanced

It is a beautiful species and if you go to Paphiopedilum Species you'll see some variation in color of others of this species.

Hi Terry, You have lot's of blooming going on there.
My delenatii has always bloomed with white petals and the staminode looks a bit different than yours. It lost it's bloom to mealies while I was on vacation this fall, but here's a shot from a previous bloom.

Beautiful flower Terri. That's really pink. Mine has been fairly consistent over the years. Cool temps are definately key. This is from this morning.

Cheers.
Jim

I am suprised that no one else has chimed in...

a plant photo would be helpful in ID confirmation. Ho Chi Minh tends to have wavier leaves (but not always). Delenatii tends to have yellower staminodes. Your flower has a greener one.

There is a slight chance that it is a Paph. (Ho Chi Minh x delenatii)...a cross that has been done and Parkside orchids is selling it: http://www.parksideorchids.com/image...enatii%20S.jpg Note it also has a green staminode. The green staminode comes from the vietnamense in its background.

Anyway, this is a gorgeous plant and a keeper, much better than the average. take good care of it.

....I am not an expert at identification, this is about all I can tell you. My guts tell me that it is not straight delenatii

I'm tending to agree with Fren that this is probably a Ho Chi Minh - the staminode and petals don't look quite right. Although delenatii petals are peppered pink on the outside and therefore can look pink from the front under certain lighting, the petals on this plant have a shape that is more like vietnamense.

A photo of the leaves could probably confirm or falsify our suspicions, as Ho Chi Minh leaves tend to look like vietnamense leaves, which are darker and waxier than delenatii leaves.

I should also add that the color in the pouch is more saturated than most delenatiis. Note that delenatiis tend to look very similar because there isn't much variation in the gene pool.

Thank you Joe and Fren for your input. I will try and post a picture of the plant, but probably won't get to it for a week or so. I'm traveling. I did google search Ho Chi Minh and came up with many photos that look very much like my plant, so I suspect you guys are correct.
