Epiphytic paphs? - Orchid Board

I have a Papiopedilum lowii seedling that arrived with a not so great root system and I read that it lowii is one of the true epiphytic Paphs there is.

Since mouning it, it has put out new roots into the corkbark/moss and is steadily growing.

Is anyone else out there growing any Paphs epiphytically?

Very interesting experiment. I saw a photo of the huge phrag Hanne Popow growing epiphytically and it was spectacular. But your paph needs to be watered very often now.

Yep I have it slightly sitting in a tray of hydroton [kiln fired clay balls] that has a few cm of watter in the bottom so it is constantly wicking water and the cork slowly soaks it up keeping the roots just moist.. I do water it every now and then with some seaweed fertiliser though.

THat little Paph is too cute!! Congrats on the great mounting job. Now that I know this is a good epiphyte, I'm more likely to try to grow it in a viv. How large do these get??

Thanks Tindo, I'm not sure how big it gets but I think it could be a very good candidate for a viv...

Actually I've mounted a lot of stuff so at some point if I wanted, I could put it in a viv.. the only thing is if you were to silicone or foam it in place what happens if its the wrong place- not enough or too much light/humidty water?
