Epiphytic paphs?

lowii gets to be a pretty large plant. You will need to move it to a larger piece of bark before it gets to be flowering size. The spikes are also quite subttantial.

My lowii has about a 14" leaf span with a fairly upright growth habit and the spike stands at least that tall with three flowers on it.

Good point! I totally agree with this. You are going to have trouble with a tiny mount like that.
You might have to remount when it gets bigger or something...and that will cause root damage because they should cling to the bark eventually

Steve, thanks for the information and advice .. that's quite big! May take a while to get to that size but clearly I will have do something... maybe long term potted is a better option?

Yep Fren I think they are already growing into the 'nooks and crannies' of the bark, taking it off now might set it back or worse..

I suppose I could just put the whole mount into a pot at some stage and fill the mix up to the right level and the paph would just grow right off the mount into the mix in the pot?

Thanks J. that I would love to see! It was after seeing a Pleurothallis growing insitu on the side of a tree that I fully came to realise what ephiphytic means and as a result I mounted a few Pleuros that were on death's door and they are thriving .. I think it was Ecuagena? Hang on I'll find it and pop in a link:
