The only way to get a true blue paph, or any other orchid, is through genetic engineering. The "true" blue color we hope to find in a flower is usually produced by the chemical delphinidin. Its a very rarely produced pigment in flowers...Delphiniums have it, so does Meconopsis, the Himalayan Blue poppy. No orchid has it. Even blue Vandas, and I have 2, are not "true" blue...just bluish shades of lavender. With paphs, in particular, it would be difficult. Paphs don't even have a true, bright red...even the "reddest" of paphs can't compare to a besseae or one of its phrag hybrids. Definitely plants in the earth-tone range, along with deep purples. Even genetic engineering may not help. I'm currently reading the book Flower Confidential, by Amy Stewart...about the commercial flower industry. Even when the delphinidin gene has been engineered into carnations and roses, the result has been purplish, not a true blue. Take care, Eric

Yes. It's incredible but you found it! Do you understand Russian?
As you can see there are few photos of almost blue paphs but all of them are results of good work with Photoshop.

Shadow,

I am from Ukraine, too But I live in US.

Sorry for off, thank you guys for the information. It's so pity we don't have blue orchids... When my white paph will open I'll color it with acrylic blue paints. Sounds, like an idea, uh?
