Paph. delenatii x Paph. delenatii 'Edwin' - Orchid Board

I have a small Paph delenatii in BIG trouble. I bought this chid around 4 months ago, give or take. It was doing fine until about a month ago, when the leaves started to turn yellow, then brown at the tips and spreading down. I have attached a picture of what it looks like as of 10 minutes ago. I think this orchid will not make it. It may have been over-watered. Totally a stupid move on my part. I watered it and forgot to drain the water from the little bowl it sits in. It had several small growths and those have all died. So Paph experts, PLEASE HELP ME!!

Is there anything I can do to save this orchid?

You will need to unpot the plant and see what the roots look like. If you have some roots left you can probably save it with a bit of effort. Remove any of the roots that are mushy, and repot in fresh media. Keep it humid (but with good air movement) and well-watered, but don't let it sit in water again. If you have any bottom leaves that are totally brown, remove them by grasping the plant at the base with one hand and pulling the leaf sharply downward with the other. Leaves that are still alive can have the brown parts trimmed into the green, using a flame-sterilized blade. If you don't have any roots left... well, for now, let's hope you do.

I cant speak much on the maudie types but my green leaf type got abused the same way this summer while I was out of town for a month ....A friend put it in a bucket and let it sit in water.OUtside under a tree.....lots of rain that month.

I got home and wow it looked just as, bad almost no leaves left. It had no roots left just the main rhizome in the center with 7 baby fans coming off it. The baby fans did survive and I cleaned it up and repotted it.About a month later I decided to put it in s/h and it is recovering fast.....4 baby fans and the main crown all regrowing leaves ----plus three new fans coming off the central rhizome too.I did remove three baby fans to start more in different mediums just to see what it liked best and start more.

I would try trimming off the bad parts and dusting with cinnamon and repot .......s/h or not is going to be what you are comfortaable with.But never give up untill there is no green to work with!!!!

Thanks for the speedy replies! I am not confident that the roots will look very good. It only had about 2 roots when I got it. I will un-pot and see what's going on. I will also trim the bad parts and see what's left. This poor thing is going to be so bare.

I must mention that P. delenatii is not a Maudiae type. It is a member of subgenus Parvisepalum, and there is actually a big difference in culture between the two groups (although delenatii is the easiest of the Parvis). I don't mean to insult you or anything, I just want to eliminate any possible confusion for any beginners who may read this.

Have faith! You may be surprised. If not, you may still be able to induce root growth. I'll explain it if it comes to that.
