Default Paphiopedilum helenae (two plants)

hhhhmmm.... my first two Paph helenae have opened (ok, not yet fully, but open)... Aren't these guys supposed to be yellow? Both plants come from the same nursery and are first time bloomer (I assume they are even from the same flask)...

Paph. helenae # 1

Paph helenae # 2

both plants for comparison

well... I keep hoping that either they become yellow in few days, or that at leats the third plant (from a different vendor) is more yellow... and that I do not get any surprise with the var. delicatum I bought from Franz Glanz

I only grow a few Paphs. so I don't know much about them but I know what I like and your plants strike me as being uniquely beautiful and they appear to be very small. Even if they don't turn yellow I would be quite happy with them.

Your plants look fantastic ! (ok, they would be even more amazing in yellow... I cross my fingers for you that they will turn yellow soon ). They are so small, do they stay like that, miniature Paph ? In that case they jump right now on top of my wish list!!!

Yes, they are miniature Paphies.. the pots are 3.5 inches wide... I think there is a vendor in Canada who has them, as well as some of its primary hybrids (This species is not legal in the USA)

Ramon, the ones I've seen in person have had more red in the pouch, and kind of nondescript petals. Some have a white halo on the dorsal, some don't. I've actually see a few of them here in the US, though not for sale online. They certainly aren't cheap here!

CloudsOrchids is the one I mean.... They also have Wössner Ministar (which I considered the best primary ofhelenae!), Wössner Goldsuk, Wössner Mini Goldi (this can be gorgeous too) and Reinier (fairrieanum X helenae)

Very nice, Ramon. They seem to like S/H. They look well grown. Darn CITES, they would be popular in the states if we could get them. Are they supposed to yellow as the bloom ages?

Bill
