Default Damaged Goods

This beautiful paph supports an 18" spike topped with 4 flowers. I was so looking forward to their opening and now that they have begun, I see they are damaged! I know water will produce the brown shriveled appearance of the pouch but I specifically NEVER spray the flowers with water. Also, notice the dorsal seems to be shriveling... so what's your thoughts. This is the 2nd year for me with this plant and last year's were just beautiful.....

Hi Doc, Can't really help you with a reason for that happening. But, I had a lowii start blooming a couple of weeks ago and the first flower to open did something similar to yours. It looked great the first day, and just browned up and was gone by the third day. The following blooms are just fine. So, maybe there is hope for you yet. What paph is it? It looks like it's got potential.

I would say you didn't do anything wrong in you're culture. It looks to me that it is just one of those weak flowers - the form is just plain off.

It's beautiful! Too bad about the other blooms though I know nadda, zip, zilch about that kind of stuff (paphs) so can't be of any help there. But, we've all been damaged a bit at some point... adds character down the road right?

Hi Howard,

Is it possible that water dripped off the roof of the greenhouse? Or maybe a cold draft? I don't grow these or Phrags, so I can't offer any other possibilities.

Regards, Melanie

Not sure I have the name correct and someone is welcome to correct me. The tag was broken and hard to read when I got it, so I did my best. Paph Saintlow (Saint Swithin 'Golden' x lowii 'Princehouse')
