First time repotting my paph - did I do it right? Female
Default First time repotting my paph - did I do it right?

My little lady just started growing a new root (barely visible in the center above the dirt). I wasn't sure how deep to plant it - does it look like I did it right?

Thanks!

The plant looks indeed nicely repotted, however the medium looks quite weird... What kind of medium is it?

I would agree about the medium. It looks to fine for a Paph (or for most 'chids) to me.

It is a special paph mix that I purchased from an orchid supplier. It seems to have a lot more dirt in it than my phal medium, but it also has a lot of small pebbles in it.

Dirt in the medium. "What's up with that"?

As soon as I watered it, the dirt kind of washed away, so it's mainly pebbles, etc. now.

That seems odd, my Paph is in more open medium than my Phals (larger bark chunks and stones), I thought they needed to breath like Phal roots do.

My worry would be that with dirt in the mix it could suffocate the roots, even if it looks like it has washed away at the top it may still be down in the lower parts of the pot and stop the roots being able to breath.

Is there really medium designed that way, and is it the right thing for Paphs... that I don't know

This is what I bought....it even says it's "soiless". Hm.

Green Barn Orchid Supplies : Paph. Mix - bark, aliflor, soiless mix, 1/4 c.f. bag

the description sounds fine, however it looks weird... I would say the bag was already too old and the medium had started to decay...
