This was the first paph I bought about a year and a half ago. When I got it, it was in bloom on a stem that was around 10" tall...now a new bud on a new growth is beginning to open but the stem is only 3 or 4" tall.
What did I do wrong, or what would I have needed to do for this to grow to the size it should have been? I'd appreciate some help from our slipper gurus
Hmm, thats interesting. I had no idea such things could happen. Maybe you didn't feed it enough, or too much. I'll let the experts guide you. Is it possible that it will continue to grow?

It's difficult to say what the exact cause is for a shorter stem. My guess is that it is related to light conditions that were different than the prior blooming. Of course, it could also be just an aberration this time and it will have a longer stem next time. Generally paphs will bloom better when the plants have several growths.
