A new Paph in my collection, and many others in my wish list :)
Today, I went to visit a friend of mine, who breeds Paphiopedilum since many many years (his father started the nursery more than 75 years ago)... as always, we had a very nice and long conversation about plants, politics, and, and, and... (as always I spent more than 4 hours with him in the greenhouses - slowly, I am starting to think his wife will declare me "persona non grata" )
The greenhouses look great at this time, with several hundreds of plants in bloom... Of course, I could not resist and came back with a gorgeous Paph venustum (to be honest, I never thought I would ever buy this species )

he had another Paph venustum with quite small flowers, about half the size of the "standard" ones, but somehow a very very cute plant

many blooming Paph tranlienianum

and here is where I almost went mad... I tried anything that came to my mind to convince him to sell me this plant, after he explained it was the only one he has, I did my best to convince him to sell me a division... but no way, I could not (YET! )

same as above, I will keep insisting and begging for a division of this other (the whole plant is not taller than 45 cm/18", with a leave span of not more than 30 cm/12")

I was also "deeply touched" by this clon of Paph Bryan

and had the pleasure to see first hand (even if not my favorite species)

Very nice!! I've been wanting a venustum since a few hours ago, when Clayton showed me a pic of his that just fully opened. You sure must have had loads of fun in the greenhouses.
Now, as for the Paphiopedilum Saint Swithin x rothschildianum, Deva Orchids in the UK has it.... My google custom search engine is very good at locating orchids in a few seconds!

to be honest, I had never really liked this species... until today there were so many different plants.. most of them not interesting at all to me... but... well, the two in Flickr and 2 or 3 more.. just gorgeous!

oh yeah... always... a glass of red wine would have made it like heaven but if we open a bottle of wine, the risk would be too high that:
1.- I come back home with 100 plants!
2.- well.. Ms. G gets a gun and kicks me out of the greenhouse, not allowing me to come again in my life

Camille, the especial of this particular plant is that the flowers are very dark, and the plant is very compact. Normally, rothschildianum hybrids are very large, but this particular clon. It's like my dream: roth hybrid in "take-away" size

Wow, what remarkable and unique Paphs! They are all beautiful. I never thought I'd be a Paph person, but they've grown on me. I just bought my first one a few weeks back and am already looking for another!
