Paph name game

Bought this as a flowering size P. philippinense 3 years ago at a reasonable cost. Its finally flowering. The buds looked different to other phils I've flowered. Its half open and I think a new name can be applied, not philippinense. Any guesses, I have 2 picked out.

Dear Roy,

It is a natural hybrid but I couldn't guess parentage from a floral photograph alone. Please see:

Atwood, J. T. 1989.A new natural hybrid Paphiopedilum from the Philippines. Orchid Review. 97:182.

In it he describes P. Expansum which is purportedly (hennisianum x philippinense).

Ask around and see which Philippine species are flowering in collections in your area.

To clarify the name of this Paph its actually P. Lebaudyanum = philippinense x haynaldianum.

That would explain the amount of pink.

Do you know if this came from the wild or was a seedling produced in cultivation?

This is not a wild collected orchid and this cross never has been. This is a man made seedling, a remake of a cross registered back in 1895.

It's such a beautiful primary hybrid! I can understand why the cross was made again. It must really be a great orchid if it's been registered 100+ years and still be produced.
