Hi everyone! I am trying my hand at some parvis; I recently acquired paph. delenatii, micranthum, and Magic Lantern.
I know these plants need to get cool at night to initiate flowering. What I need to know is, how cool is cool enough? If they need to get below about 67 degrees F, I'll need to move them out of the growing area at night to a windowsill or something. Or is it based on an average temperature drop, like phals?
Paph delenatii and Magic Lantern are really easy to flower. All you need to do is provide a drop in night temps of at least 5 C (around 10-15 F?) and they will flower. Paph micranthum is a tougher subject. I wouldn't say a greater decrease in temps is needed, but you'll need to combine it with higher light and keep moisture and humidity high in the winter (which in turn should be accompanied by air movement).
delenatii and ML can bloom in intermediate temperature, but the color can be more intense in cooler temp. micrantum need to be down to 10-12'C night temperature during winter with slight resting period and you have to maintain that range till the flower if open. Other wise the bud will blast. In nut shell, if you can grow and bloom cymbidium, you can bloom micranthum and armeniacum.
