Alba Paph awarded saturday

This is Paph. Limeade x Paph. Silmaril (an Orchid Zone cross). Just had it awarded on Saturday. I'll have to figure out a good name for it.

I believe its name to be Paphiopedilum Emerald "Tsukubia Green Wind"

Actually it probably should be an AM. It had a slightly damaged stem (from moving it, not genetic), and the team told me that would have been another point.

As an update, that cross is now registered as Littlefrog Fantasy. It is still in bloom (three months later!). Haven't yet figured out what I want to cross it with. Probably nothing this year, maybe on the next bloom.

Do most paphs blooms last that long? I had no idea, I figured 3 weeks. (showing my skill level here. )

It depends on the paph. But most paphs will stay in bloom for at least a month. Vietnamense seems to be an exception, but not a lot of people have that species anyway.

I'd say that most of the 'Maudiae type' paphs (which the pictured plant is) should stay in prime condition for at least two months. I have had flowers last 4 months on some Maudiae type plants, sometimes a bit longer. By that time, the flowers usually have accumulated a few bumps and scrapes though. Probably best to remove flowers after they have been on the plant that long, especially if they aren't in perfect condition, just so you can get better flowers next time.

And yes, long flower life is just one of the many things that I and so many other people love about paphs... *grin*

Nope... All mine are dead. And I can't really recommend it to people. I've tried several plants, and none were particularly vigorous. Flowers don't last all that long, plants are weak... I'm sure it is nice, but for my money I'd get a nice Paph. delenatii. Spend the big bucks (I haven't yet) and get delenatii v. dunkel, which has awesome color.

I do have a Ho Chi Minh (vietnamense x delenatii) that isn't dead, and has bloomed. But it also appears to be a fairly weak plant. It bloomed last spring, and I have yet to see a new growth.

I'm waiting to try vietnamense again until after another generation in captivity. The next flasks to come out should have more vigorous plants.
