Default Paph pot question?

Well I needed to check out a situation with my Paph lowii....something just wasn't quite right, so I unpotted it. Turns out the roots are good with some active tips....but a few of the roots were rotted.....it was in a green paph pot and I wanted to switch it over to a clear pot so I could see the roots....so I went digging in my supply tote....I could have sworn I had some of the square pots left! Dang! Well I dug the old pot back out since I think it doesn't need to go up a size yet....but if I want a clear pot, I either have to wait a week to get a supply shipment in or I use a round 3" clear slotted pot....would the round clear slotted pot be a bad thing (would it be to shallow or allow to much air)? I use a chc mixture and have thought it may have been holding to much moisture do to my watering habits (once a week but I let it soak for a bit since it always seems dry). I have it in my orchidarium in low light since it is recovering from .... well I don't know what....it's leaves look bad...dehydrated looking, miscolored and pitted, it lost a lower leaf or two but has since started a new leaf that was discolored as well, but now as it grows more the rest is looking ok. Anywas....if someone could give me advice what I should do about the pot I would greatly appreciate it....for now it has a damp paper towel wrapped around the roots so they don't dry out to much.

Thanks!

Becca,

I don't grow in any coir but I do use a peatmoss based mix, with some perlite, otherwise it gets to moist and not enough air in the center of the pot. I wonder if you would adjust your mix to increase the air to the middle you would have a better outcome as far as the roots grow. Perhaps with bark, perlite or even charcoal.

I'm not a fan of slotted pots, clear, green or clay slots. I've used them for a couple of years and found the dried out the roots on the (outter edges to much) leaving the center with too much moisture. Then there's the roots getting out and the ramble factor
Some folks do like them and use them with success.

It's not uncommen to have a few roots die off. This can simply happen with changing out the overall mix aswell. It's good that your lowii has active roots.

I'm curious about you lighting and tempts & humidty
