A friend gave me a Paph. Rothschildianum about a year ago,and it has begun to send up a bloom.About how long should it take to open the first flower. The bud is up about an inch from the crown now. This will be my first Paph to have bloomed, and I am looking foward to seeing it. Thanks for any input. Karl Frost
It depends on the temps that you are growing this one at--warm nights will facilitate spike elongation and bud development. I would gess it will be about 10 days or so before you start to see the first bud start to swell. Roths have very big flowers, so it takes quite a while for the buds to develop all the way; it will just seem to swell and swell and then finally it will pop open. Good luck, and post us a pic or two when it starts its show!

Hi Unhappykat . The wingspan on this one is 28 inches. I grow all my orchids In a greenhouse during the summer, so It gets warm during the day and cool at night.I may give them some heat at night, as It will be getting cooler soon ,here In central N.Y.

Yor plant is only 28 inches and it bloomed!!
I have a giant space hog over thirty inches with three growths going every which way so it takes a huge chunk of the growing bench. What is your plant potted in, I live in central Cailifornia so i am getting the night chill but my giant is just sitting there getting bigger.
