Question New Phaph Not Happy

I bought a phaph in bloom x 2 weeks ago. Mostly purplish in color, sepals are purple as well except where they meet, then light greenish color. Black dots on the sepals. Lip is burgandy/purplish(?) color. The top of phaph, i'll cal it a hat that is beginning to droop. I am keeping it moist, but not soggy. The bottom leaf is turning yellow. The other leaves seem to be still semi erect. The weather here in Vancouver has been a heatwave x 3 days. I kept a fan going. Phaph on humidity saucer. Is there something i can do, or is it beginning to die? I hope not .I have kept it out of direct light. Hopeing someone can give me some advice. Thanks

G'Morning,

Sometimes this can be normal for the blooms to droop while their still working it out, I'm not sure how long it's been blooming?
The yellowing leaf - Is this the one with the bloom on it?
Your paph should be able to take the higher heats for a few days, without any problem, warm growers enjoy this type of weather.
Keep it very moist at this time, what type of lighting is this under - do you have a photo to share?

If the thing was in-bloom when you bought it, and now it's two weeks later, it could be fading normally.

The fan and especially the humidity tray are of little-to-no value.

I agree with Ray. Trick is to buy 'em in bud. that way flowers last longer. I got a paph Barbatum mid Feb, took it a while to open but the flower died just a few days ago. I live in Pitt Meadows and felt the heat too.

A would help.. but I agree with the others, it sounds like normal life cycle. My paphs and phrags are also feeling the heat and the flowers don't last as long as before. As long as the leaves are not limp and droopy, I think your plant is fine.. just need a rest after spending so much energy blooming.

Funny. Mine are subjected to fairly high temps during summer (high 80s F) and show no signs of languishing. Flowers last a pretty long time (compared to other genera) like a couple months. Leaves perky, and growing like gang-busters (including roots.) I've not found heat to be a particular issue for me, for what it's worth. I run fans, but not for cooling. They help dry off any of the crowns of the fan-producing 'chids before evening cool down.

Question Phap Not Happy!

, thank you for the responses. I certainly appreciate every one of them! .I will try to post pic, but been having problems with my computer. The yellow leave is the very bottom one. The hood or top part of the paph is drooping over. Other leaves are still semi erect. Even my husband is having trouble helping to post the pic! And, he is a computer Geek Really Wish us luck that we can do it. Hope to hear from everyone who can take the time to respond. THANK YOU
