Cool lowering night temps for phals & paphs

I have been trying to come up with a way to lower the night temp in my grow area especially now that I have gotten back into Paphs (not picky about species/hybrids yet) & Phrags (bessaes maybe) after a really long time. The paphs/phrags I am getting have to get along well with mostly species Phals. I know paphs like it a bit cooler and a bit brighter than phals and thats fine, but lowering the temps more than a degree or two esp. in the winter is a big challenge. In the summer I leave my windows open in my living room where my stand is. I also leave my balcony door open so I can lower the temps, maybe 5 degrees.
Could I put some crushed ice under the plants in with the water they sit over or maybe put a small package of that freezing thing you put in your lunch kit to keep your yogurt of milk etc. cold. I know you can't have the plant touch anything cold but I thought I could either hang something or put the freezing thingy in the middle of the stand with the plants a few inches away. Growing in your living area is tricky concerning temperature management.

Any thoughts? -- regards, m

What a great question! I've wondered myself if anyone has used evaporating ice cubes. Let's see!
