Paph, compact multifloral

Hi all, would you please tell me what paphs are multifloral and have a compact growth habit? My grow area does have 2 paphs right now but mostly phals so I would like plants that can exist in a flexible environment. Scented would be nice but not neccessary.

Compact (even "mini") is easy. Combining multifloral is the problem. Not sure there is such a beast. I am definitely following this thread 'cause I would buy one if it existed. Maybe Dorothy can do her "magic search"?

Look for hybrids containing Paph Pinocchio as a parent, they often have a sequential flowering period. The plants are not super compact, but are less so than hybrids with rothschildianum or lowii, usually having leafspans of 14 inches and heights of 4 inches out of bloom.

#3 is a pinoccio hybrid with its first flower. they opened one at a time ending at #4 in may.

Paph wilhelminae comes to mind, it's not fragrant but is definitely compact and a multi-floral plant.

Have you considered phrags? There are quite a few continuous blooming phrag hybrids with compact growth habit and are easy to grow (and definitely faster growing the paphs!).. and hybrids made with Phrag schlimii are usually fragrant as well

Hi Jorch, actually, I LOVE PHRAGS but I am not sure I have the right lighting or humidity. Having said that, my chid club is ordering from Orchid web when they are in Winnipeg MN in the next few months and I am going to try the Phrag Mini Grande and Will Chantry (this last has bessae in it) I do like the Jason Fischers, and most of the other bessaes, the redder the better!

There are a few great phrag growers are in Alberta From experience, phrags are a lot easier to grow and flower, and are quite forgiving, as oppose to paphs. just my

Well Mary - I have a number of multiflorals that aint very small at all - does it have to be multi?

1 paph that does come to mind is my paph honey - it is a multi fairly compact (NOT TINY) and can bloom twice per year. Oh, 1 more bonus - it's scented like a rose - easy grower aswell (IMHO)

BTW, You don't need high humdity for phrags.
