Paph lowii growth
There's something going on in my lowii...is it a sheath? a new leaf? something else? I know, I know, I need to be more patient...but in the meantime, I'd like to hear people's thoughts. It is growing, by the way, so I doubt I'll have to wait too too long to find out what it is.
And yes, I posted this exact same thing on slippertalk...there needs to be more slipper discussing over on this board.

Kinda early to tell for sure, unless you can see down in between the leaf blades of the leaf it is buried in. Is that an old growth or new growth we see in the background?

My guess is that it is a new leaf... all of my Paph. lowii are still growing and producing new leaves...

You can usually feel the stem in the axis of the leaves. It will feel a bit fatter compared to a new leaf. Just gently put your fingers on both sides of the growth. Try it on known stems and you will be able to get an idea.

If you are impatient, every new growth in the crown region will make you to fantasise a great spike with scores of those bird-like flowers blooming. Those paphs pregnent with buds will show a distinct swelling in tne growing centre and the emerging sheath will have pigmentation and pubescent.

It's so hard to be patient once you've noticed 'something' new happening. I always 'find' something new at the very first stages...and then it seems like the wait is never-ending
Scott, no matter what it is that's growing...the fact is that's it's growing something and looks great
Please keep us updated

LOL Scott...I totally understand why you are so excited. You will know soon enough if it's a leaf or a sheath. Either way, new growth is good!!!

WTG Doc ... it's exciting to know when a chid is a happy chid, leaf or sheath. Just one more step for a gorgeous future bloom. It's hard to be patient with chids, especially the slippers and am still waiting for mine to pop its bloom, keep saying any day now but those days are so long...lol. Nice job growing
