There is no universal answer. You must do what you can to achieve the steady, non-soppy moisture level in your environment.
If you put the pot under the tap and really soak the bark, then wait 30 minutes and repeat, it will “open up” and hold more water for a longer time, allowing a less strenuous watering process in the future.
Many growers mix clumps of sphagnum with the bark.
Most of my paphs are in semi-hydroponics, a technique in which the potting medium is LECA pellets that sits in a shallow reservoir of water that is wicked up to keep the roots moist and airy. I still flood it periodically to wash away residues.
