Phragmipedium Grande in the South Californian outdoor? Male
Default Phragmipedium Grande in the South Californian outdoor?

I've have looked up that Phrag like grande can handle very bright light almost to those of cattleya, but I wonder if they can handle low humidity aswell? Socal temperature can have warm night in the summer, and it never frost in winter but the humidity where I am can best be at 50-60% on the average summer days.
As for winter, I'll probably might have to bring them in as it can only get around 10-20% this time.

I bought a Phrag. Grande by mistake instead of the Phrag. Humboldtii, I really wanted the long hanging stringy bloom of the slipper flowers. But knowing that the Grande is a hybrid I think I have a chance with it outdoor.

Phrag. Grande totally has long hanging petals! I think it should be fine in dappled light. I doubt the humidity will be a problem.

I'd keep an eye on it in the winter. Kovachii, besseae manage just fine in the cold, but some of the long-petaled species and their hybrids may be less productive after sustained weeks on (very) chilly nights. I used to keep them outside year round but after switching them to the greenhouse, I've had better results. Just my experience!
