Default Paph. Saint Swithin 'Jill'

No flowers to show yet. But it's nice to have some sheathing activity. I grow this one in 100% scoria. 15 to 20 mm size scoria pieces.

Might just be a matter of choosing the right Paphs... Some like to be on the cooler side, but the warm-growing ones (like the multiflorals) likely can be made happy in south Florida. (My general approach...if I have to grow it in a greenhouse, you can probably make a plant quite happy outside). Of the muli-florals, those with Paph. rothschildiana (like St. Swithin) might be problematical in that they do like a bit of a fall cool down to bloom. But SP's seems to be happy, so it will likely work for you too. The biggest drawback that I can think of is that they are slooowwwww... Those multiflorals tend to need to get big before they bloom. And don't produce new fans very fast. Once you get a new growth, it'll be another year for the new growth to put down roots, and yet another year to bloom. Sloooowwww...

They can take a while for sure to grow! As long as they seem to be doing ok, and not going backwards in health or development ----- then they'll get there eventually!

This type grows quite well in the tropics. Although, I have to keep an eye out for spider mites and maybe scales, and also an eye out for erwinia or other bacterial activity - that might surface every once in a while!

This gives hope. I will pm you some names to see if you know any but I have a random assortment of rescues so I assume they are NOT well matched to the climate lol
