Are Paph. sanderianum s particularly difficult to grow?

Once you see a spike forming, move the plant into the deeper shade of the regular Paphs (otherwise the spike will be too short).

Do you have specific recommendations for parishii, philippinense, and sanderianum? Parishii and sanderianum are listed as deep shade and philippinense in light sahde (on slipperorchids.info). Philippinense does seem to be okay with bright light, sitting with my cattleyas. Parishii seem to be happier in the darkest corner of my patio...

Not sure what Michael Koopowitz (sanderianum x phililppinense) would prefer.

I have my multis in 1400 fc/15000 lux LED lighting, which might be a bit high honestly. My leaves are a light green color. I think 1000 fc might be a good starting point for the plants you mentioned. By the way, if you are interested in learning from a true master of Paphs and Phrags of all types, I suggest Ed's Orchids on YouTube. He has been growing them for decades and has lots of great suggestions.

My post was based on comments by Sam Tsui (Orchid Inn). They were not specific to any specific species, but general for the multi-florals.

He made those comments in connection with a Paph on the show table that night. It was either a Prince Edward of York (roth x sanderianum) or Michael Koopowitz (philippinense x sanderianum).

I have heard the same general comment from Glen Decker (former owner of Piping Rock Orchids), and have grown the few multiflorals I have had accordingly. And yes, they should have a fairly light yellow-green foliage color.

One I have at cattleya light levels is certainly yellow green but the one in deep shade is "normal" shade of green - probably could use some more sun... May play around with it a bit. Both are growing steadily but I assume light levels will impact blooming.

Yeah, I like Ed's YouTube channel. It's oddly soothing to watch him repot his paphs and phrags... haha. A little difficult to pinpoint specific subjects of interest, though. Repotting will be my next hurdle. I've yet to repot one...

There is nothing like *P. sanderianum* , petals 80cms long , and when the flowers are opening , the petals drop out folded to 2cm short segments and then they unfold and grow-grow-grow in length ...

The plant in nature is pendent and anchors itself in cracks in vertical limestone cliffs ...

And in cultivation the growing medium should be a mixture of broken crystalline limestone and durable moss (not Sphagnum) , and the compost should be kept damp at all times but not wet.

Also :: Cattleya light , not Phalaenopsis light ...
