solid leaf vs mottled sunlight needs -OR- YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG, COCONUTS!!!!!!!!

i have my solid paphs in my bathroom behind a very opaque window and my mottled outside on my patio where they get some morning and early direct light (through a screen) and then bright shade.

I was speaking to a MUCH wiser grower and she said, "isn't that completely wrong?" to which i said, "i don't know, i thought it was this way but i am now unsure" and here we are....

so, what's right
