Back from the brink
In June I bought a Phragmipedium humboltii at the RHS Chatsworth Show from Orchideen Karge. It was a cracking plant with four, well-developed new fans but we went away for a weekend in July and it was very badly sun-burnt when we came back. I thought it was touch and go whether it would survive but I found that it still had some roots and there was a green nubbin at one end of the rhizome so I repotted it from pure moss to a mix of bark and moss and crossed my fingers. It's shown absolutely nothing until I spotted something poking through the topmost layer of moss today and I found not one but two new growths. I was convinced that it had turned up its toes but I'm delighted that it's proved me wrong.
