Phrag. Fritz Schomburg (besseae 'Mega x kovachii 'Leonardo Andre' FCC/AOS)

I bought this plant in spike last year at the Maryland orchid show and sale. It was a windy but sunny winter day and the spike broke on my way home. I was not sure if I can grow phrags but I just could not resist the beautiful plant in flower of the phrag. Fritz Schomburg. So I thought a kovachii hybrid was the perfect way to start It is in LECA beads in semi hydro and absolutely loves it. Roots grow crazy but the new growth took a whole year to completely mature and flower! a very slow grower indeed!

Yes, phrags are surprisingly easy (as a group) to grow and bloom once you accept that most of them love lots of fresh clean water, they're pretty adaptable otherwise. There are plenty of challenging species and hybrids, but those are fortunately the exceptions rather than the rule. Most of the wet growers are also fast growers, but kovachii is something of a slow grower and sometimes its hybrids inherit that.

I'd love to see photos, but Photobucket has made some very unfortunate business decisions in the past year, so it's no longer a viable option for photo sharing for most people.

Nothing you can do. The issue is due to Photobucket's relatively new policy. Because they wish to pull in more $, you can no longer post images from a Photobucket album to a forum (3rd party hosting) unless you as the album owner are will to pay for their premium account. A lot of folks have ditched PB because of this change.

I can't see the photos today from my desktop using Firefox and a VPN that represents me as being in Canada. I will try Opera browser a little later and set my VPN to other countries.

I tried looking at this page with VPN off in Firefox and Opera, and also with VPN on spoofing several different countries. I can't see the photos any longer, but I did see them last night.

It is possible to hit the Quote button and get the URL to Hanzy's photos on Photobucket. But PB won't let people view content with an ad blocker, so I can't see them there.

I like the look of your growing area, too. Everything is healthy.

to answer Estacion seca, I have a 2' long x 5' tall tent in my bathroom that has a 300w LED fixture. This is where my Phrag Fritz schomburg is. I have a 4' long x 6' tall tent in my kitchen that has a 450w LED fixture. I have my vandas and cattleyas here and several mounted orchids. I have a humidifier and a fan running at all times as well.

The Phrag. on display at the show had a beautiful coral tone with a nice size and I just couldn't pass it up and I'm glad that the one I have is very close if not similar to the one that was on display. The flowers on mine have a 3 1/2" diameter in size but the pouch has a dent on each size and I'm not sure if that is normal or not. I only fertilized twice within the year while the growth was developing and the original growth died when the new growth was developing. My theory is that it was taking all the energy and nutrients from the original plant. Hopefully it will clump on the next growths and have a stronger and much vigorous plant.
