Besseae x pearcei

This one was in bud when I got it this spring and it is still blooming on the same spike. It is it's 9th bloom and now it is blooming on it's second growth. I will have to wait and see how many it will have. At least 3 for now and it has perhaps one coming out of the side of it. Normal or not? The picture doesn't show it very good. It also has another growth and time will also tell on that one if it will bloom.

Thank you. It has really done well for me. I can't take credit for it but am getting close with this next one. I think I have had it for 6 months now and it didn't have the second spike when I got it. Maybe I can take half credit on it

If it is still this happy and blooming, I think you deserve a great deal of credit.

That's a pretty amazing bloom span. I have some bigger ones that will sometimes bloom that long off one spike, I hope my Olaf Gruss turns out like yours.

At least 3 for now and it has perhaps one coming out of the side of it. Normal or not?

I'm not sure I understand, but are you talking about branches on the spike? Branching is perfectly normal in Phrag spikes, yes, but some clones & hybrids are more prone to it than others. It's a sign that the plant is in optimal health, because for the most part, they have to be to be able to support extra flowers being open simultaneously.

Well I guess it is branching. It is the 3rd picture and I know you can't see it very well. I have heard you talking about branching but I only have 3 Praghs and one is small and has never bloomed. So I have never had one branch before. I can feel a bud I think on it. I will just wait and get another picture when it progresses more.

I thought it was quiet the span as well. I can't believe it is doing so well. I haven't re-potted it so I have not been setting this one in a saucer of water unless I won't be home to water it every day. I will sometimes skip a day but never 2. If I am going to be gone a day I will fill the saucer with water.

Cool. The branching spikes are one of my favorite qualities of Phrags. And with modern breeding lines and great new species/varieties being discovered that are prone to branching, it's a characteristic that I think will become even more common in hybrids.
