Phrag. Bel Croute - Orchid Board

The cross is Phrag. Sorcerer's Apprentice 4N x Phrag. caudatum v. sanderae

I can't take credit for this, since I purchased it in low spike 5 or 6 weeks ago. The flower's been open for a week and the petals are around 6 inches long and still growing. The flowers are large in proportion to the foliage, which is always a plus.

I bought it because it's fairly compact growing for a caudatum hybrid, particularly considering the other parent is a 4N Sorcerer's Apprentice. This thing fits under my lights except now that it's in bloom.

It's very nice! I'd be curious how many flowers the spike produces on this hybrid.

Very nice. I like that the colour combo is a bit different than lots of Phrags that I see.

This spike will have 2 flowers (the one you see) and there's a bud still developing. My best guess is that this particular plant probably only ever produces 2, because it's already a healthy, mature, multigrowth plant. Considering the compact size of the foliage and the relatively large flower size, I'm fine if it only ever produces 2 flowers per spike.

This hybrid in general probably maxes out around 4, with most plants producing 2 or 3 flowers per spike.
