Interesting, not heard that, but there is definately a climber in this one's background, either in the besseae or the other parent.

I've seen ocassional spurs of Paphs that climb up like this, but this one aparently has every growth higher than the last.

The nursery says they used to cut off the lower ones when they decided to make a higher one be the main growth in a pot, now they leave them on (see the two leaves coming out the medium at the front of the pics, these are from an even older fan. They said sometimes they then just die back, other times another new growth comes up from that point, so the leave them just in case

Good to know. I have two Besseae, one yellow the other red. One of them is definitely showing signs of climbing. The other is growing like other Phrags.

The last flower before the spike died off on this one. It's working on some new growths now

I'm not sure I counted the flowers. I think 7 or 8 sequentially.

Rosie, I love it! I got mine in January and it has since bloomed (see Photo) with two flowers at one. There are more buds forming on the same spike, so I am hopeful there will be even more !

It opens with a lot of yellow in the sepals and petals, The yellow fades in a couple of days.

RosieC, I love your photos.
According to Wolff & Gruss, Phragmipedium dalessandroi differs from the climbing besseae by its compact growth habit.

It's been in flower again All home grown spikes this time

The stack of pots has increased. I think I will need to split this soon.
