I find that my Phrags get brown leaf tips from our tap water. It happens on every single Phrag. and when I use rain water it quits. Over-fertilizing would cause it too I think. If it is brown elsewhere it might be something else.

Is it leaf tip die back or actual soft rot?

Mine came with trimmed off leaves, so I think even the grower had leaf issues.

In the first couple of months, I had leaf tip die back.
Then the new leaves grew out perfectly clean until one day...the ugly brown rot began.
I wish I had a picture.

It first shows up as slight indentation anywhere on the leaf, in the middle, near the tip, on the side, ...
the shape of these indentations are irregular.
then in a few days, the dark brown color sets in and the dented area (now marked brown) gets bigger and bigger. That is when I trim the leaves off.

Have you seen this kind of thing before?
I have not seen it on any plant I have ever. strange. but definitely a disease of some kind. maybe South American disease made its way to my apartment? lol
I thought about chucking the plant many times, but then I didn't see it happen for about five weeks straight, and I thought it was gone. well, now it is back again.

I'm really thinking of tossing it rather than sitting here and freaking out. lol

Is it a soft squishy rot like Erwinia, or is it a dry necrotic spot that just keeps growing? If it's the former I'd pitch it. Erwinia spreads like wildfire. If it's the latter I'm not sure. I presume you have checked for insects etc.

No bugs.

I'm not sure if it is completely dry, but not wet either. something between I'd say.

I am worried and this has been going on for basically the whole time I had the plant.
I think I might just pitch it.

Some of my paphiopedilums are also having leaf issues. The more I buy, the more weird stuff I experience. oh, well...
