I AM MAD!!!!
After returning from college I went to my backyard just to find my Cypripedium aculae alba container with only soil and no orchid in it.
It turns out that the landlord pruned the roses and threw the remaining branches to the trash can along with my orchid. He must have thought that it was dead since the leaves were yellow, but still is was none of his business to take my Cyp. into the trash.
This is the second time that he throws away one of my orchids. Last time was a Bletilla striata.
Fortunately I was able to save them both after looking for a long time in the trash can.

Maybe put a note on the plant saying, "Please don't throw me out. I may not look it, but I'm alive! Thank you for your hard work!"
It's polite, and it lets him know that you mean to keep the plant in question without making him feel like some kind of jerk.

Damn, that sucks, glad you were able to find them and save them! And yes, I agree, put some notes, tags, something for him not to do it next time!

Good thing you found them. You should be nice, no matter how you let him know. Sounds as though he just doesn't know much about these orchids. Not everyone is an expert on everything. :|

Wow! I'd be fuming and terribly, horribly mad!!! But if I found them I'd eventually calm down. I agree, try and treat the land lord nicely...

I don't understand how a landlord would think he or she has any rights to touch anything you own whether it's dead or not.

The landlord was doing his yard work and the plant was left outside, that's how. It's not like the guy walked into his apartment and started raiding his stuff. It was an honest mistake. Annoying, yes, but still honest. Besides, if I had someone doing my yard work for me, I would be willing to let things like that slide in favor of free landscaping!
