Free yard work would be nice. I have spent the last week trimming, digging, and hauling away 'clippings'.

*Sigh* It is that time of the year that the outside garden has to be "put to sleep". But hey (perking up) the orchids are spiking inside.

Sorry about your orchid. Hope it makes a full recovery. I agree with those who say to give the landlord the benefit of the doubt. I think the "I am only sleeping!" sign would be a good way to keep it from happening again. I know that my husband and son will regularly weedwhack down my new perennials and shrubs if I don't mark
(and remark) them with orange flagging tape. And just forget about my 89 year old father on his lawn mower. Being a gardener is not for the faint of heart or for the easily offended!

Good luck in college, BTW!!!

I think any Landlord has to talk to his renter about the "eye sore" and can not simply throw it out. That goes for anything that is, in his opinion, a "eye sore". What if that had been a $1000 orchid? There are people that can and will pay that kind of money for one orchid.

Okay, my mom is a landlord of a rent house my Nana left her......Meaning the plants, and I don't think that is allowed. Even if it is left outside...Of course my mother is slightly used to having me as a daughter with a gardening addiction. But still I really think you need to look at renters agreement. But again someone with an untrained eye about plants may think they are dead. an example would be my bleeding hearts plants...in winter it looks like a big mass of dead looking twigs lol.

Just talk to the landlord like everyone has said and ask that if in doubt please leave it be and you as the renter will take care of it.

Thank you guys for your responses. I hope the orchid recovers well. Winter is coming so I will have to do something about it.
