Default Anyone growing slippers S/H?

I've been considering trying some easy to cultivate slippers semi-hydro. Anyone growing slippers S/H? Anything special you do for them compared with other S/H orchids?

Thanks.
Cheers.
Jim

Hi Jim! I have a couple of Paph.'s in s/h. This is my experience. You should really wait for new root growth before switching an orchid to s/h culture. I got lucky....I didn't learn this rule until after I put two of my paph's into s/h. One took right to it and is doing great. It has a second growth that is now taller then the original growth. The second one I haven't really seen any growth on, but I thought I saw signs of new roots growing closer to the surface, it is hard to tell without taking it out of the s/h medium. I still have several paph's in bark medium....I think I will eventually switch them all over to s/h when the timing is right with new root growth. Hope this helps! Oh...and I don't do anything special for them. I treat them like every other orchid in s/h medium.

I have LOTS of paphs in s/h. Most are doing great and growing well. I have lost a couple of plants that I put into s/h but only one or two were paphs.

I grow almost all of my orchids in S/H. Some PA, some Hydroton, and some of it gets mixed when I repot so I reuse it.

My Paphs do OK but the Phrags just take of like crazy in S/H.

My experiences and suggestions are the same Jim. Wait for new growth to signal repotting time, clean all of media off the roots. Soak the media in KLN and water with it the first time. My Paphs have done well and my Phrags even better, still occassionally you will get a plant that just sulks for a while.
