Hi,
I recently acquired a near bloom size Magic lantern. It bloomed, but for only 2 1/2 weeks. (I'm guessing they normally bloom longer?) We've had some hot/cooler/hot weather. Anyways, now that the bloom has fallen off, what do I do? Do I cut the spike? I've never grown this type of orchid before. Thanks,
Karin
I don't know this paph specifically. Has the spike started to dry up? If it has then cut it off as low down to the leaves as possible.
However some paphs will bloom again on a spike (but not if the spike starts to dry up). Usually if that was going to happen you would be able to see a new bud developing already. If you're not sure I would leave it until it starts to dry up.
I grow paphs fairly similarly to my phals. In the same windows. I maybe keep them slightly more damp than phals but they seem to do well with pretty much the same care.
Yeah, it's in the window with my Phal's. I don't know. Maybe they are short bloomers? I couldn't seem to find any info on how long they normally stay in bloom. Eh, it looks like it's drying out. I will probably cut it. Thanks so much for the reply!
Some paphs only ever have one, maybe two flowers on a spike. Most of mine are like that. Some though are 'sequential' which means you get one or two at a time but the spike keeps growing, getting longer and longer and producing more flowers. I think the first time are more common though and if it looks like it's drying out and there is no sign of growth from the tip then cut it off.
