Phrag. Mem. Dick Clements

This is a plant I got at my orchid society's auction for $2 in September 2012. It had almost no roots and was in pretty bad shape. I put it in semi-hydroponics and it is doing really well, however the flowers are misshapen. This is the 1st Phrag I've ever grown and I'm not sure if the bad shape is due to the plant's genetics or from growing conditions. What do you guys think?

I think the color makes up for the waviness. Since all of the flowers seem to have more or less the same form on the pouch, I think it will continue to bloom that way, whether you like it or not. But for $2, you could list it for sale and plenty of people would pay much more for it and then you could buy one or two more that suit your tastes.

In addition to the wavy petals, the pouch is pretty "lumpy." Is this normal? If it is, then I'll probably sell it or trade it for something else (which is a great idea, thanks for the idea Professor).

Steve, it's my guess that this is the result of its mishandling (not by you) or just simply an aberrant blooming. I'd certainly bloom it one more time to make sure before disposing of it. Had the same thing happen to P. Cardinale and it was fine the second time round.

Ok, I was hoping that it was just a bad bloom from a formerly weak plant. I'll give it another go and then put it on the auction block if need be! Thanks for the advice Ron.

I think it is really nice, for the color und precisely for the 'wavyness' . Don't know why it is supposed to be good for a flower being only flat, round and fat.
These flowers look very alive, and the color - if it is like it looks on the pics - is really nice.
There are besseae-hybrids out there with tooths. Oh I like them much more than the 'good ones'.
But perhaps I'm the one to blame, I dont like peloric flowers as well.
Enjoy your plant and thanks for sharing! (I would buy it if it was nearer to me!)

It's gorgeous. I'd keep it. Try one more blooming just to make sure but either way I would want that one in my collection.
