Default windowsill slippers

Which species/hybrids have folks had most success (as in flourish) on windowsills? know about Maudiae-types. Are there any others that really thrive in the window?

I have a Supersuk "Eureka" AM/AOS x Raisin pie "Hsinying" x Sib that grows in a west window all year and blooms for me usually in March/April. Zone 6

I love the rich purple color! How long have you had it and where did you get it?

I have several paphs and keep all but one in the greenhouse. Paph callosum thrives in my house with no extra care but hates the outdoors and the greenhouse. I have no idea why. It does make a great wndow sill grower.

If that is addressed to me I got it at a local garden center, about 4 years ago. I just got my first Catt. on Sunday AND I'm giving a Phal another shot that I also bought.

"...I'm giving a Phal another shot... "

Tom, I had the same experience... it took me a whle to figure out how to grow Phals. I finally realized that I can't grow them in sphagnum moss. I do love them though since the flowers last long and the plants can make do with less light. That is why I want to give Paphs another shot since they can grow in lower light with the phals.

Thanks to you and Deb for the tips, I'll look for purpley mottled leaf paphs that hopefully have P. callosum or P shukhuliae (sp?) in the background.

Yes, Paphs are easy for me. My problem with Phals was getting them to rebloom. I think I have a better idea of how to do that now, cooler fall temps, like Xmas and Thanksgiving cactus although not as severe.

Glad I could help nudge you into Paphs!

Have FUN!

I grow ALL my slippers in a windowsill with some fluorescent supplementary light, and I grow some pretty tough ones. You can grow anything anywhere, as long as you can use what you have to get the general idea of what the plant wants. Orchids can be surprisingly flexible.

Dear Slipperfreak:

How do you do with Brachyopetalum species - which of those have done best for you? I think they are really cute plants but I've heard that they can be short lived. Also I like the small spotted "toads". Howver, I don't have time for plants that need to be pampered/need distilled water etc.
