Default Phragmipedium wallisii (synonym)

Accepted name is Phragmipedium warszewiczianum due to KEW´s World Checklist of Selected Plant Families.

A long wait after some setback as I forgot it on my balcony some years ago, and I found it after the first snow. Some remain from the freezing can be seen on the not so nice looking foilage.

The freezing was two years ago if i recall correct, and "the sign of dryness" is the damage that is left from the stress of freezing. It has never been dry as it grow in S/H in hydrofilic rockwool and perlite.

I love phrags, but some of them get REALLY big!

They are a shoe-in for S/H culture.

I had someone tell me that Phrag. caudatum could not be grown in S/H, but mine is doing fine.

I grow this one in my south west window in a version of S/H culture. The substrate is a mix of rockwool and perlite that I hold wet all the time, always water on the plate. I have no air conditioner and I have the window open all the time during the summer.

This one is not very big. The long petals are about 40 cm today. Though if they grow much longer I need to find something to put the pot on before they hit other pots
