Confusion and help over Phragmipedium ‘Umbrid’?

About 4 years ago purchased a Phragmipedium ‘Umbrid’ from Burnham orchid nurseries in Devon, but try as I might I could not find it anywhere so I turned to going through all the pictures of Phragmipediums I could find be it on the internet or in books but find anything that it could be so I am now turning to all of you for help!



or Phragmipedium

Can any of you name or give me some idea of what this phrag could be. Any ideas will be most welcome and helpful!!

While it's near-to-impossible to identify a hybrid by its flower, looking at names of registered hybrids can sometimes help. I'll bet you're just reading a sloppily-written label, and it's Phrag. Umbriel, a cross between Grande and sargentianum.

I can definitely see longifolium in it so I would agree with Ray. Google Umbriel and you will see it for yourself.

It does look very similar but the thing that gets me is that the label is a printed one, granted it could be a typo.

I did find this web site with a list of hybrids that it belongs to! sargentianum

I can see it to and I found an interesting site with a list of longifolium hybrids which this one is said to have come from and it seems to a rather OLD cross!!!

That happens all the time. I was given a beautiful Catt for Christmas one year. The label read Chin Lin 'New City'. I couldn't find it anywhere. I finally tried a search at RHS using only part of the name and Chia Lin 'New City' popped up. Der!
