Sorry you guys are housebound. Been there, done that too many times in my life; Winter 1966 at MSU, E. Lansing, and 24" of the white stuff in 20 hours. Closed the city and campus down for 3 days.

I learned a long time ago, Howard, not to be touchy about everything - that a lot of what people take offense at wasn't even intended to cause offense. Shouldn't take ourselves too seriously anyway.

Wow, it's just gorgeous and as ever your pictures are stunning.

It reminds me of Cyp reginae, my reginae has a very round pouch which your Phrag really reminds me of, however the shape of the rim of the pouch on this reminds me more of Phrags than Cyps.

Of course the colour of this is far more intense looking than Cyp reginae. Here's a link to one of my reginae pics if you are interested to compare. I just found the resemblance striking as soon as I saw your pic and had to check it was actually a Phrag not a Cyp.

Thanks, Phragguy, and Rosie, all the hybrids of this type are very much the same, but the ID on this is almost certainly correct and been confirmed by quite a few different people.

As to C. reginae, we want to look for it one of these summers when we are in Michigan. I know several places where it grows and have seen it once in the wild.

Ron, are looking to purchase this or just find it on one of your hikes in the woods? For purchase, Wayne Roberts grows them in his yard along with a number of other species. I help him out for the Lansing Orchid show in February and Michigan Orchid Society show in March.
