Default Phrag Memorial Dick Clements

I've been wanting a red Phrag for a while and while at a small local show yesterday I spotted this one.

I had resited even though I really wanted it, as I had already bought 7 orchids and didn't want to upset Hubby by pushing the spending even further. Then after we had already paid this grower for something else and were about to walk away he said "What about getting this one as well, I know you wanted one like this"

I had almost bought this hybrid from the same grower when we visited their nursary in July, but instead let Hubby choose which of two Phrags he preferred. He chose the other one back then (Paul Eugene Conroy).

So it pays to let the other half take a part in the orchid buying decisions... because now I have both!

Phrag Memorial Dick Clements is sargentianum x besseae and is in turn one of the parents of Phrag Jason Fischer as well as other hybrids.

The plant has a new growth starting, and I can see 2 maybe even 3 buds following the existing flower.

Thanks Ted and Joann,

I will have to measure the leaf span when I get home Ted as I'm not sure. I wouldn't call it a small plant... however I'm not sure what Phrags are usually like.

Omg, I'm so jealous! Wanted to get one at a local show in october, but they were horribly expensive. Love red blooms!

What else did you get? You're teasing us by saying you got 7 others, but don't say what!

This one was not too expensive. There were others on other stands at the show of similar colouring which were arround the £65-£75 mark and I couldn't justify that price. This one was £30 and looked just as pretty to my eye as the more expensive ones, and the plant is nice and healty looking too.

Sorry for not saying about the others I got a Masdi floribunda which I've posted pics of in the pluro area of OB. I also got the two Den kingianum (or kingianum hybrids) you saw mentioned in another post. The other four were a bulbo, a paph, a cyp and a Leptotes unicolor (really really tiny but with two flower buds which I hope won't blast).

I can't remember the names of the others... oh actually the Cyp was kentuckiense. That just looks like a pot of gravel at the momment though.

I'm going to post the Paph (which is in flower) once I get pictures taken. It's a primary hybrid with an unimaginative name which is just the start of each of the parents names shoved together, but I can't even remember the parents.

Both the Bulbo and the Leptots are in bud so I'll post pics of them when they flower (hopefully they won't blast )

Thanks WhiteRabbit

Ted, the leaves are mostly about 12" - 16" each.

Camille, the Paph is called Vill-exul and the Bulbo is called Jersey.
