Rosie wish I knew something about phrags so I could answer your questions, but unfortunately what I do know comes from this thread. Ray, that phrag. photo is outstanding. Those elongated petals are so exceptional outside phrags.

Rosie since you've already moved it to Hydroton I'd take the next step and make it be S/H. Phrags don't mind being wet. In fact I think you'll find you have to water this more often than you might think. The biggest adjustment plants have is to the medium and you've already done that. Go for it!

grow them very wet and give them plenty of lighting, and you will be rewarded with many blooms!

seems like you have a very healthy plant and I probably would have been fine in rockwool.

Anyway, phrags grow in any medium, and probably are one of the most versatile orchids I know

(sorry I am too tired to read through the whole thread, I hope I helped somewhat)

Thanks Terri and Fren,

OK so I'm going to keep it quite wet from now on, I'm more comfortable with doing that in Hydroton than I was in it's old pot, simply because I had no idea what it was actually in (how much was bark and how much was rock wool as I could see one at the top, the other at the bottom, with no idea what was in between).

Fren you are probably right that it would have been fine in the rockwool but I didn't realise it was mostly that until I had already broken the existing pot trying to get it out, I thought it was in mostly bark and was uncomfortable about that (and underwatering as a result).

Anyway, good to hear they are quite versatile, and Ray has had good success with this same orchid in S/H so I'm going to go for that.

Thanks again everyone
