Can anyone recommend a good fertilizer/supplement for paphs and phrags? I read somewhere that phrags like calcium and magnesium, is this true?
Also, does anyone know of any good books on paphs/phrags. Most of the books I've seen don't spend a lot of time explaining the care of these types or orchids.
Hi, here is a link with a lot of info. on Paphs. there is a list of the ones that like calcium Slipper Articles .. I also grow Phrags . and use the MSU Fert. on both Paphs. and the Phrags. it has the minerals in it . off and on I add a little oyster shell or grated bird cuttle bone to the Paphs. that like it . Happy Growing Gin
Thanks Gin. What do you recommend as far as water quality for both? RO only? A mix of RO and tap? I've heard so many opinions its getting down right confusing!
The Paphiopedilum Growers Manual by Lance Birk. <---The best of the best!!! If I would have to choose ONLY one, thi swould be my choice!
Tropical Slipper Orchids: Paphiopedilum & Phragmipedium Species & Hybrids by Koopowitz. <---Very good with a lot of photos and information about hybridization.
as per Calcium and Magnesium, not all ofthem like it: Check this website slipperorchids.info lot's of usefull information here!
as per the kind of water.. it also depends on so many thing, including your growing conditions.. Hybrids tend to be more tolerant. Other plants are more sensitive.. it's a try&error for you.. but with pure water (and the right fertilizer) you can keep things better under control
